Due to a big rig crash, one lane of both northbound and southbound I-5 is closed just south of Cottonwood. The crash happened at around 3 a.m. Tuesday. The CHP said the crash was caused by "fatigued driving." Stay tuned for updates.
The search is on for a marine missing in the Sierra Mountains. Officials from Camp Pendleton say 1st Lt. Matthew Kraft of Connecticut was reported missing March 4 when he did not return from a backcountry skiing trip on the Sierra High Route.
The Redding community is set to honor two brothers killed in a plane crash in Ethiopia. Brothers Bennet and Mel Riffel, from Redding, were two of 157 people killed Sunday. The community will honor them in a memorial at Redding's Saint Joseph's Church at 8:15 a.m. Tuesday.
Investigation continues for Ethiopian Airlines plane crash
Investigators are working to determine what caused that plane crash. The model of the plane, a Boeing 737 Max 8, is now under global scrutiny. U.K. aviation authorities have just announced plans to ground that model, and Malaysian authorities have suspended that model flying in or out of the country. Late Monday, Boeing announced plans to release a software upgrade to the plane in the coming weeks.
Humboldt County Sheriff's Office investigating body found at state park
The Humboldt County Sheriff's Office is investigating a body found at a state park. It was found on a beach at Big Lagoon State Park Friday afternoon, just four miles from the main parking lot. Humboldt County Sheriff's Office encourages anyone with information to call it.
"Jane Doe" identified 28 years later
The remains of a woman found 28 years ago have now been identified thanks to modern fingerprint technology. The body of Cynthia Merkley was found back in 1991 and now investigators are looking into new angles in the case.
The first step in replanting trees in the wake of the Carr Fire will begin in French Gulch. The French Gulch Upper Clear Creek Resource Management Group will be distributing tree seedlings to the community. It starts at 2 p.m. on Tuesday at the French Gulch Oddfellows Lodge on Main Street.
Recent rain storm contribute to potholes in Shasta County
The recent rain storms may be causing a pesky problem: potholes. Winter Caltrans, Shasta County roads and the city of Redding Public Works team up to patch these holes before larger problems happen. Authorities ask anyone who sees a pothole to report it so they can get to work and keep everyone safe.
