A portion of I-5 in Shasta County remains closed this morning due to the Delta Fire. It has burned 5,000 acres north of Lake Head, near the Siskiyou County Line. The highway is closed from northbound Fawndale Road to Southbound Mott Road just 10 miles north of Redding. Mandatory evacuations are in place for the area and an evacuation warning has been issued for Dunsmuir. An evacuation center is open at the Mount Shasta Community Center.
Chico Police are investigating a shooting in downtown Chico. It happened in front of Duffy's Tavern off Main Street at around 1 a.m. on Sept. 6. Police say one person is detained, and another person is recovering at Enloe Medical Center with a gunshot wound.
The Butte Local Agency Formation Commission will vote today on a potential annexation plan that would increase the size of Chico. The city's population is expected to increase by up to 30,000 in the next 30 years.
The Department of Water Resources says the costs of repairs for the Oroville Dam Spillway has topped $1 billion. That includes the crisis itself, construction and all related expenses. The division of safety dams also just gave the Oroville Dam an unsatisfactory rating for the second year in a row. That is the only rating of its kind out of 1,200 California dams in the report.
Final Free-Use Days at Lake Oroville
Today and tomorrow are the final free days at Lake Oroville. It's part of the Department of Water Resource's summer program. There are trails for horseback riding, hiking, mountain biking and picnicking. For more information, check out the visitor center on Kelly Ridge Road.
