Memorial and Procession Held for Captain Joe Duran

A procession and memorial will be held for fallen Chico Fire Captain Joe Duran. West First Street will be closed between Salem and Broadway from 9 a.m. - 1:30 p.m. Services at Bidwell Presbyterian Church begin at 11:30 a.m. and a procession will then go from the church to the Chico Cemetery on Mangrove Avenue. 

State Attorney General Declares District Attorney's Action in Desmond Phillips Case Justified

The State Attorney General's office has sided with the Butte County District Attorney in its review of the police shooting death of Desmond Phillips. The Attorney General's office says it found no wrongdoing in the case, and will take no further action.

Chico Serial Criminal in Court 

A man Chico Police describe as a serial criminal will be in court today. Police say that 33-year old Ishmael Smith has committed a series of escalating crimes this past month including sexual battery, arson and prowling. Police say they are alerting the public and going through an extra process to keep him behind bars. 

All 14 Casa Ramos Locations Reopen

All 14 locations of Casa Ramos restaurants have reopened in the North State. The company says a disgruntled former employee accused the restaurant chain of not reporting sales taxes correctly, initiating an investigation from the Department of Justice. The restaurant is now filing civil proceedings against the former employee. 

Burned Area Emergency Response Team in Shasta County 

The Burned Area Emergency Response team is in Shasta County to study the impact of the Delta and Hirz fires on the environment. Based on their findings, they will recommend measures for future safety.

Carr Fire Debriefing Happening Saturday

On Saturday, Redding firefighters will be hosting a debriefing on the Carr Fire. Residents can ask questions and get to know the firefighters who helped protect the community. That is happening Saturday, Sept. 22, from 10 a.m. to 12 p.m. at 1800 Park Marina Drive in Redding. 

Oroville Salmon Festival Begins Today 

The Oroville salmon festival is kicking off today. Tonight, the Feather River Nature Center hosts a dinner and dance. Saturday, the fun continues with a street fair from 10 a.m. - 3 p.m. Also, check out the fish hatchery from 7 a.m. - 3 p.m.for free tours of the salmon run.

Thankfully, the wind is cooperating much better today in northern California. Our weather is still quite hot for this time of year and very dry. There is plenty of haze and smoke from the Fawn Fire overhead, and it isn't leaving yet.
