All 14 Casa Ramos restaurants in Northern California are shut down as part of a Department of Justice operation, but there's no word yet on the focus of the investigation. The restaurants have legal clearance to reopen but are waiting to hear word from its corporate headquarters on how to proceed.
The Chico Fire Department is saying goodbye to a long time team member. Captain Rubin "Joe" Duran recently died from job-related cancer. Duran led the department's rescue team until August of 2017when he retired due to poor health. His memorial will be held Friday, Sept. 21, at the Bidwell Presbyterian Church in Chico.
New Regulations for Homeowners Rebuilding After Carr Fire
Homeowners rebuilding after the Carr Fire will have more relaxed regulations in order to reduce costs. Shasta County is also reminding people they still need to sign up for the fire debris removal program. Home rebuilding is set to begin Nov. 30.
Chico Airport Commissioner Steve Breedlove has been fired for alleged disruptive behavior. Mayor Sean Morgan says Breedlove initiated a chant that disrupted a heated council meeting two weeks ago. Five city council members voted to fire Breedlove, one voted no and one abstained.
Action News Now is following up on the case of a Bay Area groundskeeper who won a lawsuit against the chemical giant, Monsanto, over their weed-killer Round Up's possible link to cancer. When it comes to schools here locally, the Chico Unified School District says they follow state and county laws for herbicide use and right now, Round Up is still an approved herbicide. The environmental protection agency says the weed killer does not cause cancer, while the World Health Organization says their may be a link.
Redding Police Department to Serve Coffee at Dutch Bros
The Redding police and fire departments will be helping take orders and serving up coffee at the Dutch Bros on South Market Street to benefit the Turtle Bay Exploration Park. They will be out from 7 - 9 a.m. this morning.
Boys and Girls Club Hosting 'Pasta on the Plaza'
The Boys and Girls Club of the North Valley is hosting its10th annual "Pasta on the Plaza" fundraiser. It's from 5 - 8 p.m. at the Rotary Plaza on Wall Street in Chico. Tickets are $10 per person and it's all you can eat pasta and salad.
