Secretary of Interior Visits the North State
On Monday Secretary of the Interior Ryan Zinke will visit Redding to review efforts to battle the Carr Fire. Zinke last week penned an op-ed for USA Today outlining what he calls a proactive approach to fighting fire by utilizing among other steps, tree thinning and prescribed burns.


Containment Stays at 61% for Carr Fire
Monday marks three weeks since the deadly Carr Fire broke out near Whiskeytown Lake. It is still at 61 percent containment at 61 percent containment at over 201,000 acres. A disaster recovery center is open at the old K-Mart building in Redding at 9 a.m. daily.


All Evacuations Lifted for Hat Fire
All road closures and evacuations have been lifted for the Hat Fire near Burney. Cal Fire Shasta-Trinity Unit says Highway 299 East is now open to traffic. The fire is 1,900 acres and 55 percent contained.


Ranch Fire Now Largest in California History
Cal Fire has announced the Ranch Fire as the largest in California history at over 287,000 acres. It is part of the Mendocino-Complex Fire in Lake, Mendocino and Colusa Counties. The Ranch Fire is 62 percent contained as of Monday morning. The River Fire, the other part of the Mendocino-Complex Fire is 93 percent contained.


Yosemite Park Reopens after Ferguson Fire Erupts Nearby
Yosemite National Park will reopen Tuesday, 14 days after a wildfire choked the park with smoke at the peak of tourist season. Though the Ferguson Fire did not reach the heart of the park it burned in remote areas making roads inaccessible and polluting the area with smoke. The fire that started on July 13, one month ago Monday is now 83 percent contained.


2 Juveniles Arrested, 1 Still at Large for Alleged Armed Robbery in Chico
Chico police are searching for a third teen suspected of robbing a man at gunpoint and assaulting him in the South Campus area. It happened near West Ninth and Ivy Streets Saturday night. Two of the teens are now in juvenile detention.

Wednesday has been similar to Tuesday around northern California with comfortable temperatures, but unhealthy levels of smoke in the air. A cold front is approaching the West Coast, and that will move over the region on Thursday.
