Grab your umbrella! More wet weather is on the way for your Thursday, but most of the showers are expected to hold off until this afternoon. Some light and scattered showers will be possible through your morning hours, but more widespread showers will be holding off until later today. Rain amounts are not expected to be all that substantial today and should be limited to around a 10th of an inch through this afternoon. Snow levels are staying around 6000' today, but could become slightly lower on Friday. A Winter Storm Watch will be in effect for portions of the Sierra above 6000' from Thursday afternoon through Friday night. Temperatures have dipped into the low to mid 50's in the valley again overnight, and into the 30's to 40's in the mountains this morning. Winds will be out of the South to around 15mph, with gusts up to 25mph this afternoon. High temperatures will top out in the low to mid 60's in the valley, and in the 40's to 50's in the mountains this afternoon. Showers will become a little heavier heading into this evening, so make sure to pack your umbrella if you're going to be heading out to the Thursday Night Market in Downtown Chico tonight.
Heavier rain and snow will return to Northern California on Friday. Snow levels are projected to stay above 5500 feet, and up to 2 feet of snow will be possible through Saturday morning. There will be a chance for thunderstorms in the valley on Friday afternoon. Rain totals through early Saturday will be in the quarter inch to 3/4 inch range for most areas, but the Northern Mountains and Redding are expecting to get a bit more than that. Redding could see upwards of an inch and a quarter of rain through early Saturday. Temperatures will stay in the same range through the weekend. Lows in the valley will dip into the low to mid 50's, and high temperatures will end up in the low to mid 60's. Showers are expected to mostly impact the Northern zones of our region this weekend, but some modest showers could fall in the mid valley on Saturday and Sunday. Temperatures will warm up for the start of next week, and showers will become lighter. Valley areas are projecting a return to the 70's on Monday afternoon. Models diverge on what to expect towards the middle of next week, but the current forecast keeps light showers in Northern California through Tuesday night.
