CHICO, Calif. (UPDATE: 12:27 p.m.) –– A hiker was rescued after falling down Big Chico Creek Thursday morning.
Chico Fire Battalion Chief, James Lucanic, said they received a report around 10:46 a.m. about a hiker who fell into the water.
Lucanic said the hiker fell from an embankment and landed in a waterway just below Bear Hole in Upper Bidwell Park. The hiker’s phone fell in the water with him, however, he was still able to call 911.
After half an hour of firefighters searching for the hiker, crews found him and removed him from the water. Lucanic said the man declined medical treatment and suffered minor injuries.
Lucanic wants to remind the public as the weather gets warmer and people head out to the water, let someone know where you are going and bring your phone.
