CHICO, Calif. - People at the Chico Cemetery came early Memorial Day morning to honor those who gave their lives defending the U.S.
One veteran at the ceremony, Dave Tehan, servced four years in the U.S. Marines and two years in the National Guard.
"A lot of friendships a lot of bonds made that are forever. We lost a few and just take this day out of the year to remember them," said Tehan when asked about why people should celebrate Memorial Day.
He also believes that Memorial Day is a day for people to understand the cost of freedom.
Tehan is thankful for not only those who actually served, but also the military families who support all military members.
"You know when their loved one is away and if they come home or not. You know it's still, everybody pays a price for what we have.So it's good to take a day out and remember what that price is," he explained.
