Escaped control burn causes 7.5 acre fire near Butte College

CAL FIRE's Butte Unit quickly contained a five-acre vegetation fire that started in a residential area near Butte College on Saturday afternoon.

Update 6:15 p.m. Saturday, Dec. 12, 2020 - According to the CAL FIRE Butte Unit, the Stage Fire burned 7.5 acres on Old Stage Road west of Butte College on Saturday.

Butte CAL FIRE Public Information Officer Rick Carhart said it was an escaped control burn. Carhart warned that people should never leave a burn pile unattended, even in December.

Carhart said crews will be cutting line for another hour or more at the location of this vegetation fire near Butte College.

BUTTE COUNTY, Calif. - The CAL FIRE Butte Unit reported a late afternoon vegetation fire near Butte College.

According to CAL FIRE Butte Unit Public Information Officer Rick Carhart, the forward progress of the five-acre vegetation fire was stopped within a short time.

The location of the fire was near Butte College and Durham-Pentz Road, off of Williams Road.
