GERMANY - More than 70 years after the end of World War 2 and an American bomb was defused in Germany on July 7.
The 1,100-pound bomb was found recently during construction work in Frankfurt, which is a major financial center.
City officials asked more than 16,000 people to leave their homes near the site as a precaution while the bomb was defused.
The European Central Bank headquarters was also evacuated.
A firefighter involved in the operation said disabling the explosive was simple and quick.
Unexploded bombs still frequently found in Germany and disposing of them sometimes requires large-scale evacuations.
