PARADISE, Calif. - A group of community members are doing all they can to help people on the ridge get ready for looming power blackouts.

A church parking lot at Circlewood drive will be filled with people chosen to get a free generator.

Action News Now spoke with Valerie Elizabeth, she works for the Community Resource Coalition.

She and her friend Jocelyn were given a grant from the North Valley Community Foundation to buy generators and give them away to Camp Fire survivors.

They sent out a call on facebook for anybody who has a medical condition and need power during an outage.

Elizabeth says it's important for these families to have power during cold months.

“As soon as we transition into winter these generators are a critical need for people because its cold. I don’t want to see people doing what I saw last year, which was having their ovens open to heat," Elizabeth said.

Elizabeth says her friend Jocelyn drives almost every weekend up to the ridge all the way from the bay area, just to help Camp Fire survivors in need.

Elizabeth says the trailer filled with those generators should arrive at Church of the Nazarene at around six Wednesday evening.

It was a bright and breezy Friday for northern California, however the wind has been much stronger over Modoc County where a High Wind Warning is in effect through this evening. Stronger wind and cooler air will define our weather Saturday.
