UPDATE: 2:55 p.m. Thursday, July 23, 2020 - Authorities identified two men who were killed in a traffic collision on July 16 in Anderson.

At approximately 8:45 p.m., a Deputy Coroner Investigator responded to China Gulch Road in Anderson due to a fatal traffic collision. The CHP said a dump truck was traveling east on China Gulch Road, southwest of Redding. While entering a sharp right-hand curve, the driver lost control of the vehicle, crossed into the opposing lane, and overturned down the embankment on the north side of the roadway.

The men were positively identified as 27-year-old Anthony Wolfgang Reckart of New Haven, Connecticut and 31-year-old Alexander Michael Cooper of Grass Valley, Nevada, according to the coroner's office.

The case remains under investigation by the California Highway Patrol.

SHASTA COUNTY, Calif. - Two people died after a dump truck was driven off the road on China Gulch Road west of Canyon Road late Thursday night.

On July 16, 2020, at approximately 8:45 p.m., a Ford F-550 dump truck was traveling east on China Gulch Road southwest of Redding. While entering a sharp right-hand curve, the driver lost control of the vehicle, crossed into the opposing lane, and overturned down the embankment on the north side of the roadway.

According to the California Highway Patrol, the driver and passenger were not wearing seat belts and were both ejected.

The vehicle came to rest on its roof approximately 50 feet down a steep bank.

Both the driver and the passenger were discovered trapped under the vehicle. They succumbed to their injuries, said the CHP.

The dump truck also lost its large load of metal fence T posts during the collision.

Both the driver and the passenger were male. When the next of kin are notified, the identification of both men will be released by the Shasta County Coroner's Office.
