Tuesday’s shooting investigation leads to an Oroville man’s arrest

Deputies arrested a man during Tuesday’s Oroville shooting investigation that left one person in critical condition.

OROVILLE, Calif. - Deputies located and arrested a suspect in Tuesday morning's shooting in Oroville, the Butte County Sheriff’s Office said.

59-year-old Javy Martin of Oroville was arrested and charged with possessing ammunition while being prohibited to have ammunition.

At about 4 a.m. Tuesday, the sheriff’s office got a call that a victim was suffering from a gunshot wound in a driveway.

The victim was treated and transported to the local hospital where the person is in stable condition.

During the investigation, deputies received information that Martin was the suspect who shot the victim.

They determined Martin was at a transient camp near the 100 block of Thompson Flat Cemetery Road.

Martin was contacted and deputies found a firearm and ammunition.

Martin was interviewed by deputies when they determined Martin and the victim were in an altercation before the victim was shot. The victim and Martin were residing at the transient camp.

The investigation is ongoing and anyone with information is asked to contact the sheriff’s office.
