Severe heat and extreme fire danger are ahead for Northern California. Hot, dry, and windy conditions will prompt a Red Flag Warning to go into effect at 11am this morning, and that is set to stay in place through 5am on Sunday. Skies are clear for the start of your Friday, and are projected to stay sunny today. Temperatures are starting out warmer than yesterday. Valley areas have only dipped into the mid 60's to low 70's overnight, and mountain areas are in the 40's to 50's for the start of your Friday. Winds are picking up out of the North this morning, and sustained winds could reach up to 25mph out of the North this afternoon. Gusts will likely top out between 30 to 40mph over the next couple of days. Humidity is projected to end up in the 10 to 20 percent range later today, which will also help to drive elevated fire danger. High temperatures will top out in the 97 to 102 degree range in the valley this afternoon, and in the 80's to 90's in the mountains. Fire danger and severe heat will be the big concerns heading through the next few days.

Temperatures will continue to heat up as we head into the weekend. Valley areas will likely top out in the 101 to 108 degree range through the weekend, while mountain areas end up in the 90's. Gusty North winds will continue through Saturday, but are not expected to be as strong on Sunday. Overnight low temperatures will also remain very warm over the next few days, with valley areas only dipping into the 70's to low 80's in the valley.

A very decent cooling trend is on the way for next week. The cooling will be modest on Monday, but should keep the valley below the century mark on Monday afternoon. Temperatures will then top out in the low 90's on Tuesday, and then in the high 80's to low 90's for your 4th of July forecast on Wednesday. The 4th looks absolutely great, so feel free to make plans to spend time outdoors. Another warming trend will be possible towards the end of next week.
