Tree falls on car in Butte Creek Canyon near Chico

Crews from Cal Fire Butte County rescued two people Tuesday evening after a tree fell on their car in Butte Creek Canyon east of Chico.

UPDATE: 8:14 a.m. Wednesday, Jan. 27, 2021 - One person had to be pulled out of a car after a fire damaged oak tree fell on their passing car.

It happened shortly after 5 p.m. on Centerville road - past where the covered bridge once stood in Butte Creek Canyon.

Cal Fire said the driver of the car suffered minor injuries -- the passenger was the one to be pulled out and was taken to the hospital.

The road was closed for a bit and the power was knocked out to more than 100 customers.

CHICO, Calif. -  Crews from Cal Fire Butte County are working to rescue two people after a tree fell on their car in Butte Creek Canyon east of Chico.

It happened shortly after 5:00 p.m. Tuesday on Centerville Road, about a quarter-mile past the Honeyrun Covered Bridge.

There is a high wind warning in effect because of a winter storm moving into the area.

Cal Fire Information Officer John Gaddy tells us one person has moderate injuries and one person has minor injuries, they are working to extricate the victims from the vehicle.

The roadway is blocked, and utility lines are down. Power is out to about 150 homes in the area.
