Transient Squatter Arrested at Millers Mansion

Chico Police have been busy investigating vandalism attempts at Chico’s old Millers Mansion on the Esplanade near Cohasset Road.

Chico, Calif.—Chico Police have been busy investigating vandalism attempts at Chico’s old Millers Mansion on the Esplanade near Cohasset Road.

Around 4:30 p.m. Monday afternoon there was a report made to Chico Police regarding vandalism at the property.

Police responded, they went inside and were not able to find anything or anyone in the area.

Police contacted the owner and to talk about options on how to deal with the vandalism.

Currently no one lives there as the property is for sale.

Tuesday morning around 8:30 a.m. police received a report that someone was inside the mansion.

When officers arrived to the mansion they found 36 year old John Thomson, a local transient inside rummaging around.

Thomson was arrested and booked into the Butte County Jail.

The Millers Mansion is currently for sale for 1.5 million dollars.

As expected a lot more smoke has poured over the California Central Valley from the Dixie Fire, and our air quality has worsened significantly. We can expect hotter weather this weekend, and the smoke will linger, too.
