CHICO, Calif. - The City of Chico said trails on the north side of Upper Bidwell Park east of Horseshoe Lake are still closed for all park users.

The gate near Lot E just east of Horseshoe Lake will also remain closed until further notice.

The city said anyone who enters the closed-off area may be subject to fines.

Hazards, such as smoldering roots, possible falling trees and limbs, loose bulldozer line and other hazards are keeping the area and trails closed, the city said.

The Chico Fire and Rescue Department said small pockets of smoke are normal but if people see flames or burning areas not inside the contained perimeter are asked to call 911.

Trails on the south side of Upper Park, like Annie Bidwell Trail, South Rim Trail, and Guardian Trail are open. If bikers and hikers cross to the north side, they are asked to avoid closed areas.

The golf course, disc golf course, Five Mile, Hooker Oak Park, Upper Park Rod and Gun Club, Yahi Trail and all swimming areas, Chico Equestrian Center and the Chico Observatory are all open and operating at normal hours.
