A big rig trailer caught on fire on Highway 70, in Oroville, in the northbound lanes. It's forcing lanes to be closed and snarling the morning commute.

According to the California Highway Patrol, Tuesday just before 8 a.m., it was reported that a trailer was on fire on the highway, near Ophir Road.

Flames and black smoke could be seen billowing from the trailer, that was not attached to the truck. No word yet on injuries, what caused the fire or what was inside the trailer burning.

CHP officers on scene are allowing vehicles traveling in either direction to take turns using one open lane to get through the area.

Action News Now has a crew on the scene and will bring you more details shortly.

Light scattered showers are on tap for the start of your Thursday, and I'm tracking heavier rain ahead from Thursday afternoon through mid day Friday. We'll have a lull in our wet pattern late Friday through early Saturday, but even heavier rain and snow will return this weekend and persist into next week. Major travel impacts will be possible across northern California from this wet weather.
