REDDING, Calif. – Approximately an ounce of methamphetamine was found by police during a traffic stop late Saturday night in the area of Twin View Blvd. and Interstate 5.
The Redding Police Department said after Officer Kofford stopped the driver, 39-year-old Timothy Yakaitis of the City of Shasta Lake, he became uncooperative.
Officer Kofford said Yakaitis reached around the interior of the vehicle and an area of his pockets before quickly getting out. The officer said Yakaitis started to approach, so a gun was drawn.
Kofford said Yakaitis started to flee, but first tossed a golf ball-sized bag of white powder over a nearby fence.
Yakaitis surrendered when the officer threatened to release his partner, K9 Miko.
Police said the bag contained close to an ounce of methamphetamine. Two other bags of white powder were found inside of the vehicle that weighed just under two ounces.
Yakaitis was booked into the Shasta County Jail for charges relating to drug sales, obstructing, and violation of the terms of his probation.
