Traffic stop in Chico leads to gun and meth arrest

An unregistered gun was found by police during a Chico traffic stop.

CHICO, Calif. – A traffic enforcement stop ended in Chico Friday night with an arrest of man for possession of an unregistered gun and 12 grams of methamphetamine.

The traffic stop was made by Chico police Saturday at 8:13 p.m. in the area of East Avenue and Highway 99.


Ivan Rafael Gracian-Velazquez

Police said 27-year-old Ivan Rafael Gracian-Valazquez initially refused to identify himself, and then was arrested for providing a false name to an officer.

A search of the vehicle followed, which caused charges to be added for more offenses. He was charged for carrying a loaded firearm in public, possession of methamphetamine, possession of drug paraphernalia, and providing a false name.

Gracian-Velazquez was booked into the Butte County Jail.
