PALO CEDRO, Calif. - The CHP responded to a three-car collision near Highway 44 west of Still Water Road in Palo Cedro, around 10:30 a.m., authorities said.

A gray Subaru traveling eastbound on Highway 44, crossed the double yellow center line into the opposing westbound traffic lane, officers said.

The car was traveling at approximately 65 miles per hour and collided with a white Chevrolet Silverado which was traveling westbound on Highway 44. The impact of the collision caused the Chevrolet to overturn within the roadway, officers said.

The Subaru continued to travel east within the westbound traffic lane where it then collided nearly head-on with a blue Audi.

The driver of the blue Audi sustained fatal injuries and was pronounced deceased at the collision. The drivers in the other vehicles involved sustained non-life threatening injuries and were taken to Mercy Medical Center.

Authorities said the cause of the collision is still under investigation, alcohol is not suspected of being a factor in this collision.
