REDDING, Calif. - Another coronavirus outbreak at a senior living facility in Shasta County. A spokesperson for The Vistas Assisted Living and Memory care confirmed to Action News Now the positive cases in its facility. .

According to the California Department of Social Services, over a dozen people, both staff and patients, at the Vistas tested positive for coronavirus.

“There have been some cases in that facility and our staff is working closely with them to help get that under control,” said Kerri Schuette, a spokesperson with the Shasta Health & Human Services Agency.

Adam Squires, the Vice President of Sales and Marketing at Ridgeline Management Company, said in a statement "We will continue to utilize all measures available to contain the spread of the virus and care for those with the illness.”

Shasta County Public Health says it is working closely with the facility to prevent the spread of the virus.

“We want to make sure that patients are kept isolated and that staff is using all the appropriate precautions when working with the residents who live there,” said Schuette.

But for Micah Seth, his grandmother lives at the Vistas.

“You know what we're dealing here with as a nation, and you hear that and you're concerned,” said Seth. “Especially if you have family members there.”

Due to the outbreak, he and his family had to celebrate her birthday outside of her window.

“We gathered as a family in front of a window and wished her happy birthday,” said Seth. “She opened gifts, and between phones, we were able to talk to her and everything like that.”

Although this situation is not ideal, for right now it’s all they have.

“It's the not same,” said Seth. “But it's the best we can do.”

The Vistas says people who live in the building and did test positive are in quarantine. Staff members in the facility are also being asked to quarantine.

It certainly didn't feel like early December around northern California this afternoon with plentiful sunshine and much warmer than average highs. A cold front is approaching, but we unfortunately don't have rain or snow in our forecast.
