Thermalito Union Elementary School Board unanimously voted to pass an anti-COVID-19 vaccine resolution

The school board will now send the resolution to state representatives asking them to not require the COVID-19 vaccine for students here and to only make it a recommendation.

OROVILLE, Calif. - The Thermalito Union Elementary School District becomes the first school district in Oroville to pass a resolution against the COVID-19 student vaccine mandate.

Several parents at this meeting said they don't see why their children should be forced to have the vaccine and think it should be their own choice.

“This is where we draw the line, we’ve all said this for a year now. Once the vaccine mandate came out, that was our line, we weren’t going to take it anymore," said Ashton Southworth.

Many people at the meeting said they are thankful for this being passed, but say there is still more that needs to be done to make a change.

“I definitely hope that the more and more school boards that stand together in this resolution that hopefully, they will all agree not just here, but all across Butte County and all about California in general. That they go and vote that we have the right to choose," said Renee Gramps.

Many parents say they will attend all school board meetings in the area to try and get more resolutions sent through.

Parents at the meeting were mainly just against the COVID-19 vaccine as several parents told Action News Now that their children are fully vaccinated, but will not be receiving the COVID-19 vaccine.

“Well, regular vaccinations in the past, we have lots of knowledge and years of testing done, where this there’s no testing that we’ve had except on I think about 2,000 children they’ve tested it on and it won’t have long term results," said Stacie Bickert.

According to Pfizer, they went through three phases to test their vaccine on children ages 5 to 11. They tested over 4,000 children and had a 90.7% effective rate against COVID-19 symptoms.

The CDC says vaccinated people are eight times less likely to be infected and 25 times less likely to die or end up in the hospital than someone who is unvaccinated.
