YREKA, Calif. – A specialized enforcement team has been created by Siskiyou County Sheriff Jeremiah LaRue to focus on the prevention, enforcement, and suppression of organized crime and illegal drug trafficking.

Sheriff LaRue said the team hit the road for the first time this week, making three arrests within the first few days of enforcement.

In addition to the arrests, the team seized $85,000 in cash, seized ten pounds of processed cannabis, and issued numerous citations.

Statistics since October of 2020 show that NSMIT, the North State Major Investigation Team led by the Siskiyou County Sheriff’s Office has eradicated close to 40,000 cannabis plants, sized 52 firearms, 14 pounds of methamphetamine, and seized more than $450,000 in cash.

The NSMIT team investigates complex cases in Siskiyou and surrounding counties. They have issued 57 citations in the time period of Oct. 2020 through early Apr. 2021.
