Butte County families in need have a chance to receive a big Thanksgiving dinner for free.
The Oroville Rescue Mission is giving away 500 boxes of hearty holiday meals. Right now, only 160 families have signed up.
To qualify, families can go to the Oroville Resuce Mission Thrift Store at 2130 Bird Street in Oroville.
Applicants must bring proof of identification, employment and residency. Organizers say pay stubs, welfare and medicare paperwork will work.
Monday, November 20, starting at 8 a.m., families can go to the El Medio Fire Station to pick up their box. It is located at 3515 Meyers Street in Oroville.
Inside each box, that can feed a family of five, will be all the makings of a great holiday meal including turkey, mashed potatoes, stuffing and veggies.
If families do not have a kitchen to prepare the box of food, they are welcome to come to the Oroville Rescue Missions Thanksgiving Dinner happened Wednesday, November 22. That will be at the El Medio Fire Station.
