Deadly collision closes roads in Downtown Chico

Police are warning drivers to avoid the area of W. 8th St. at Main St. in downtown Chico due to a major traffic collision.

CHICO, Calif. - A deadly collision in the intersection of Main St. and E. 8th Ave between a motorcyclist and car caused delays on Sunday night. 

The motorcyclist, a man in his mid-20s, was pronounced dead at Enloe Medical Center. 

The 18-year-old male driver of the vehicle was arrested for Vehicular Manslaughter and drove into a building after the crash. 

There was one passenger in the vehicle and only one motorcycle and motorcyclist were hit. 

The vehicle ran a red light and crashed into the motorcyclist before crashing into the building. 

The roads were closed from Main St. to Broadway in downtown Chico. Caltrans is stationed at Wall St. and E. 8th Ave. guiding drivers toward E. 7th St.

The notification was made on Sunday after 4:15 p.m.

Police were asking people to use an alternate route as the roadway was closed for several hours.
