SUTTER COUNTY, Calif. - A man went missing when he attempted to swim from a boat to a dock in the Sacramento River Thursday morning, Sutter County Sheriff’s said.

58--year-old Ronald Milton Belke Jr. attempted to swim to the Simard’s Boat Dock when the boat had mechanical problems.

Belke was trying to get help in order to get the boat back to shore.

Another person was in the boat with Belke at the time and watched him swim but turned away when Belke was about three-quarters of the way to the shore to return to working on the boat.

This person said Belke did not appear to be swimming under distress and was not drinking alcohol before jumping in the river.

Sutter deputies have been searching for Belke since 8 a.m. on Wednesday with their boat division and will continue their efforts.

They initially responded to the 10,000 block of Garden Highway in Pleasant Grove.

Anyone with information about where Belke is located is asked to contact the Sutter County Sheriff’s Office.

It took a few hours, but the sun broke through the clouds over most of northern California Tuesday afternoon. The low clouds, fog and light rain showers return to the valley Wednesday, with snowy weather in the mountains.
