WILLOWS, Calif. – The Glenn County Sheriff’s Office is investigating a suspicious death that happened over the weekend in Willows.
Around 10:44 p.m. Saturday, Nov. 7, Glenn County Sheriff’s deputies were dispatched to investigate a report of a man with a gunshot wound lying in the road on North Humboldt St. near the Cedar Hills apartment complex.
Citizens in the area reported hearing a single gunshot and seeing two people running from the area, toward the apartment complex, according to the sheriff’s office. Deputies and EMS arrived at the location and provided medical aid to the gunshot victim, later identified as 28-year-old Daves Fernandez.
Fernandez was transported to Glenn Medical Center, where he later died. His last known address was listed as a transient out of Corning, according to authorities.
Deputies said while they were investigating, they learned a 17-year-old male who lives in the area where the shooting occurred was admitted to Glenn Medical Center with a stab wound. The sheriff’s office said it is investigating whether the two incidents are related.
The death was determined to be suspicious and the investigation has been turned over to the Glenn County Sheriff’s Office Investigative Task Force. The motive for the shooting has not yet been determined.
