WASHINGTON D.C. - A suspect in custody being charged for first-degree murder in the stabbing of 35-year-old Wendy Martinez.

Martinez was killed while jogging in a neighborhood near her house.

"We don't have anything to suggest there was any type of confrontation between the two," said Chief Peter Newsham of the Metropolitan Police Department. "It looks like it was an unprovoked attacked."

Anthony Crawford, 23, of Washington D.C., is currently being charged in connection to the crime after he was seen on surveillance footage near the scene of the crime.

Police say that video and tips from neighbors in the area led to the arrest.

"We feel very confident that we have in our custody the person responsible for this murder," said Mayor Muriel Bowser.

Security footage also shows Martinez staggering into a Chinese take-out restaurant after the attack occurred and collapsing. Customers tried to save her life.

Martinez, who was recently engaged as of last week, is described by friends and family as the light of their lives.

"She was kind, loving, empathetic, passionate," said Juan Carlos Martinez, Martinez's brother. "She was cherished by a lot of people."
