REDDING, Calif. – The man charged last week for the 1995 murder of Christine Munro made his first court appearance on Tuesday.

The Shasta County District Attorney said James Watkins did not enter a plea Tuesday. Watkins, who was serving time in a Texas prison, was brought back to Northern California last week and charged for the murder of the Redding mother.

Stronger winds and low humidity over dry fuels will result in very high fire danger across northern California Wednesday and Thursday. We'll be very hot Wednesday, but a welcome drop in high temperatures is ahead for Thursday. Smoke will continue to bring big impacts to our air quality over the next several days, and temperatures will heat back up from Friday into Saturday.
