Suspect charged with first-degree murder in deadly Redding encampment shooting

The Shasta County District Attorney has charged a 19-year-old with first-degree murder.

SHASTA COUNTY, Calif. - The Shasta County District Attorney charged a 19-year-old with first-degree murder in the homeless camp shooting in Redding.

Alejandro Armstrong is also charged with two firearm enhancements and one possession of an assault rifle. Police found two guns in his apartment that were stolen, according to the Redding Police Department.

Police say he confessed to killing a man at a homeless camp at Mercy Canyon on Oct. 19.

He's back in court Thursday.

An autopsy is scheduled for this week for 50-year-old Karl Lee Bernardo.
