SACRAMENTO, Calif. - A man was arrested on Wednesday after police said he stole an ice cream truck and crashed it.
Authorities said the man stole the ice cream truck at gunpoint and then crashed it in the area of Douglas Boulevard, just west of Sunrise Boulevard. After that, they said he carjacked a BMW while sheriff's deputies were chasing after him.
The suspect was pursued by deputies westbound on Douglas Boulevard at a high rate of speed. The suspect crashed into a red sedan at the intersection of Douglas Boulevard and Zinfandel Drive, which sent the driver of that vehicle to the hospital with minor injuries.
He then crashed the BMW into a field, authorities said.
The suspect was transported to an area hospital for minor injuries sustained during the traffic accident.
Members of the SWAT team arrested him shortly after the second crash.
Authorities have not released the identity of the man arrested.
