CHICO, Calif. - Chico State University Students created eight different floor plans for people rebuilding in Paradise.

"It just feels really good to help people get back into their normal life becuase they didnt ask to lose their home," a student said.

This project architectural internship at Chico State University is an opportunity for students to help those is need.

"They've taken on a project where its not like oh, lets desgin a few homes but a very important project so they really feel a sense of responsibility in them and they're working so hard," Mohiuddin said.

Professional designer and professor at Chico State University, Rouben Mohiuddin joined forces with Rebuild Paradise.

"They're simple designs that start from about 800 square feet to perhaps about 1200 square feet with different combinations of bedrooms and bathrooms with a variety of rood styles and so on so forth," Mohiuddin said.

The goal? Incentivize people to rebuild.

"It wouldnt be here are the steps you'd have to take rather here's an entire package that you can choose a plan go to your lot find a builder or we have builders that you can talk to and go from there," Mohiuddin said.

The floor plans are designed to fit on a flat slab, but Mohiuddin said he knows the terrain in Paradise can be uneven so designs are changeable.

"And you're going to need to work with an engineer or an architect and modify the foundation plan so that it fits the lot," Mohiuddin said.

This is the second round of floor plans from this group.

"We're really looking forward to their input cause we wanna make these designs work really well," Mohiuddin said.

"Everyone is really supportive and they're always ready to give you a little bit of feedback and their spirits help you get excited for it," a student said.

"Being up here and studying interior architecture and actually being able to actively do something about the situation is really nice definitely wanted to take advantage of that and put my part into it," another student said.

"They did fantastic so this was good to see all the homes that they've designed at this point they've done a good job thinking through the whole process as far as the designs for the floor plans the layout the exterior elevations the roof and all that type of stop they've done a great job," Shawn Shingler, contractor said.

The group hopes to submit their floor plans to the town by next spring.
