Storm Tracker Forecast: Wet & cooler weather ahead

Cloudy and cooler for your Friday. Showers and even cooler temperatures are ahead for your weekend.

We had another day of mostly sunny skies and warm temperatures over northern California. Valley areas topped out in the mid 70's this afternoon, while foothill areas ended up in the mid to high 60's, and mountain areas ended up in the mid 60's to low 70's. Winds were out of the south to around 15mph this afternoon. Skies will be mostly clear as we head into your evening, but clouds will increase overnight.

We'll be cloudy with mild temperatures for the start of your Friday. Valley areas will start out in the mid to high 40's, foothill areas will start out in the 40's to low 50's, and mountain areas will be in the high 20's to mid 30's for the start of your Friday. Winds will be out of the south to around 10mph. High temperatures will end up in the mid 60's in the valley, and mid 50's to low 60's in the foothills and mountains. The potential for showers will return to the Coastal Range and Northern Mountains on Friday afternoon. Showers will become more widespread in northern portions of our region on Friday night and will then spread down through the remainder of the north state through early Saturday.

A Winter Weather Advisory will go into effect for portions of the Sierra above 4500' from 4am through 10pm on Saturday. between 4 to 8 inches of snow is projected and we could see up to around 10 inches of snowfall in localized areas. Rain totals are expected to be up to around a half an inch in the north valley with amounts becoming lower moving to the south. Temperatures are expected to top out in the mid to high 50's in the valley on Saturday and in the mid to high 40's in the foothills. Mostly dry weather is expected on Sunday, but the potential for light mountain showers will linger in our region. Temperatures will not change much on Sunday compared to Saturday, but low temperatures will be a bit cooler. The chance for mostly mountain showers will return to the north state late Sunday night into Monday.

A warming trend is projected from the start to middle of next week, but we'll also continue to see the chance for showers in your forecast. Temperatures will be back into the low to mid 60's in the valley on Monday and will then climb into the 70's on Tuesday. Models are currently showing a chance for showers through the middle of next week. We should get a better idea of where showers are possible and how much wet weather to expect over the next few days.
