Today I've been tracking several lightning fires and dry thunderstorkms. The heat is also strong again for some but not all thanks to the extra cloud cover.
A RED FLAG WARNING is in place today and tomorrow due to thunderstorms that could form. Dry thunderstorms will be likely but isolated, however, could still lead to lightning-caused fires. We saw them today, mostly in the morning and will see the same thing tomorrow. Even the Valley could see some of these thunderstorms. This warning is for all mountain & valley locations.
An EXCESSIVE HEAT WARNING will remain in effect through at least Wednesday and could extend beyond that as it gets closer. Each day will see widespread triple-digits in the Valley and mid-to-upper 90s possible in the mountains. Some in the Valley could top off at 112 or 113 degrees on some days. Poor overnight temperature recovery could also lead to heat stress.
A strong ridge of high pressure is contributing the the strong heat wave and a tropical moisture originating from Tropical Storm Fausto in the Pacific is being transported into California and is what's giving us these extremely unusual thunderstorms.
Triple-digits don't look to be ending by next weekend. Those hopes have vanished.
