Get ready for another day of rain and snow ahead in your forecast, and lower snow levels than we've seen over the last few days. A wet system is just off the coast of Oregon, and will spread showers from northwest to southeast through northern California through the day. A Winter Storm Warning is in effect in western Siskiyou County down to 3000' through 4pm today. A Winter Weather Advisory is in effect for Trinity & Siskiyou Counties through 4pm today, in effect for portions of the Shasta County mountains down to 2500' through noon today, and in the northern Sierra down to 3000' from 7am this morning through 3pm this afternoon. Snow levels will be down to as low as 1500' in areas closest to the Oregon border, and down to around 2500' for the rest of our mountain areas today. Snow amounts of up to 6 inches will be possible in most areas above 4000' today. A mix of rain and snow down into the foothills will be very possible. Be prepared for slick roads in our higher elevations. Rain showers are expected in the valley today, but amounts will more than likely stay well under a half an inch. Temperatures are starting out in the 30's to 40's in the valley and foothills, and in the 20's to 30's in our mountain areas this morning. Winds will be out of the south up to around 20mph, with gusts up to around 30mph. High temperatures will top out in the low to mid 50's in the valley, and in the mid 30's to mid 40's in most mountain areas this afternoon.
The potential for showers will wrap up tonight, and we'll have high pressure building into northern California for the rest of this week. Sunny skies, breezy north winds, cooler low temperatures and warmer high temperatures are all projected from Thursday through this weekend. We'll see low temperatures in the 30's to lower 40's in the valley, and high temperatures in the low to mid 60's late this week through the weekend. Foothilll aras can expect low temperatures in the 30's to 40's, and high temperatures in the 50's to lower 60's from Thursday through the weekend. Mountain areas can expect low temperatures in the teens to lower 30's and high temperatures in teh 40's to 50's late this week and this weekend. North winds up to 20mph, with gusts up to around 30mph will be possible late this week. The next chance for wet weather could arrive as early as Monday afternoon, but confidence is currently low in the longer range forecast. The most likely scenario right now is we'll start to see the chance for showers returning Monday night into Tuesday, and peristing through the middle of next week.
