Today will be nice, cool, merry day. No rain expected. Light winds. Increasing clouds throughout the day. Highs in the upper-50s. Oh and lots of gifts to be delivered tonight! Santa will have good weather for it.
Tomorrow is CHRISTMAS DAY! Many however will have mixed feelings about it. It will be a very active weather day so it will ruin many outdoor plans and will make travel hazardous, particualrily in the mountains. On the other hand, we need more rain & snow. So look at this as a gift from Santa.
The storm system is a low pressure system dropping in from the Gulf of Alaska. Rain & snow totals will also be enhanced by an atmospheric river with this system.
Half an inch to an inch of rain will be possible Friday-Saturday in the valley with 1-2 feet of snow in many mountain locations. Snow levels start low for most, then rise.
I recommend steering away from mountain travel, but if you have no other choice, please bring plenty of supplies and carry chains with you. You will likely need to use them.
A WINTER STORM WARNING is in effect in the montains from Christmas Day to Saturday.
On the bright side, most in the mountains should see a white Christmas.
High will be in the low-50s to upper-40s in the valley Christmas Day with breezy winds, making it feel even colder.
Daily chances continue into next week with multiple disturbances of varying strengths coasting into our region at least through Thursday. This will bring more rain & snow as well as keep our temperatures in the mid-to-low 50s each day.
The one day you can expect the most sunshine will be on Monday.
