STOCKTON, Calif. - A Stockton cemetery is facing backlash from the community over a planned Halloween festival on the grounds.
The Stockton Rural Cemetery has tombstones dating back to the 1800s and some families are concerned about damage and disrespect to these sites with the cemetery's decision to host a spooky festival and tour of the dead.
"I have a very dear friend of mine we just buried last week here," said Stacey Conrad, a resident in the Stockton area. "It's a fresh grave. I just don't want a bunch of kids running around on anyone's loved ones here."
The flyer promoting the event says that visitors will get a guided tour of "bone-thrilling" scares and true stories dating back to the 1800s.
The manager of the cemetery said that the event was intended to raise awareness of the history of the cemetery.
The event is scheduled for Friday, Oct. 26 in the daytime.
