SHASTA-TRINITY NATIONAL FOREST, Calif. - Officials with the U.S. Forest Service said the Spring Fire is now 230 acres and 60% contained. There is a total of 84 personnel assigned to the Spring Fire.

The fire has backed down to all control lines increasing the size. Firefighters continue to patrol and mop up hot embers along the control lines. The main challenges remain the very rugged and steep terrain with dense fuel.

Shasta-Trinity National Forest officials have issued a forest closure order for the area of the Spring Fire which is burning south of Deerlick Springs Campground on the South Fork Management Unit.

The closure order closes the portion of the Shasta-Trinity National Forest east of Browns Creek, southwest of Fox Gulch, and west of County Line FA02. Forest Road 31N02 is also closed from the closure area to about three miles east of the closure area. The order will remain in place until the Springs Fire is declared out.

The Spring Fire was first reported on the afternoon of Aug. 17. The result of lightning the previous evening, the fire is located south of Deer Lick Springs in the South Fork Management Unit of the Shasta-Trinity National Forest.
