CHICO, Calif. - Downtown Chico was packed Saturday with people who were dressed for summer and ready to cool off with some deliciously crunchy and sweet fruit.

The ‘Slice of Chico’ is a Chico tradition that has been going on for years and it’s a great way to get people to visit downtown.

Store owners got involved by offering special summer deals, Action News Now spoke to an employee from “3 Seas” on Main Street to get her perspective of this Chico mainstay.

“I think it's really nice, it feels really good to see all the community members come out. It's really fun for us too cause we get to bring in all this new type stuff and sell it. It's been really good to see the kids and everybody dressed up as watermelons,” said Sophia Rogers-Davidson, an employee from “3 Seas.”

Although the event ended at 5 p.m., organizers hope that Saturday’s festivities will inspire people to come next year.
