WILLOWS, Calif. - Benjamin James Maisonet was struck by a vehicle on July 5, just before three in the morning on West Highway 99 and County Road 48, in Willows.
He was left in the middle of the road until CHP discovered him.
His mother, Melissa Hawk, spoke with Action News Now.
"I'm asking for everyone just keep my son Ben in your prayers please because right now, it's an iffy situation," said Hawk.
Maisonet is at the hospital in critical condition.
"Our son was left for dead," said Hawk. "It hurts, he's my baby. He was somebody's son, he was somebody's brother, he was somebody's uncle, and he means a lot to us."
Maisonet does not have medical insurance, so the family started a GoFundMe.
"My son was deeply loved. We just want the help that we need from the public to get this person caught," said Hawk and her husband. "That's what we want. Turn yourselves in, please. Yes please turn yourselves in. Do the right thing."
CHP is still investigating the case.
