CHICO, Calif. - Geology Rocks and Minerals crystal shop in Chico has not always had it easy but says right now, they are doing ok.
The shop closed when the first stay-at-home order went into effect back in March.
"We beefed up our online sales and hired a social media manager so we were kind of able to regulate in terms of sales," said employee, Christian Darden.
The City of Chico told Action News Now, in the third quarter of 2019, the city had a total of 6,425,392 in sales tax revenue. In the third quarter of this year, the city had a total of 6,627,408 dollars in sales tax revenue.
"Sales, since we closed, have actually been pretty good," said Darden. "Like we have been doing good since last year, if not better this year."
Darden said inside the shop, they display signs that say do not touch in efforts to prevent the spread of the Coronavirus.
"We also try to recommend people to use these plates that we have," said Darden. "We sanitize the plates and ask that people use the plates so they don't have contact with the things they don't want."
Darden said there is something about crystals that actually helps people get through the pandemic
"When it comes to crystals and gems specifically, it kind of seems like when people are sitting at home they need something to help them feel grounded and get through a rough time because it really has been hard for all of us," said Darden.
Darden said the shop will continue to take it day by day in efforts to keep the shop up and running over the next couple of months as Coronavirus cases continue to increase.
Geology Rocks and Minerals is limiting the number of customers allowed in the shop to seven people at a time to make sure people can stay socially distanced.
