CHICO, Calif.- People packed the streets and stores, checking their lists and picking up gifts, all giving an early present to local businesses during Small Business Saturday in downtown Chico.
This year, Matt Theide, owner of Stoble Coffee in Chico took part in his first Small Business Saturday. Thiede says, "It's been really fun so far even though the weather hasn't been the best, it's still cozy and people have been excited about what everybody is doing here. Small Business Saturday is great because it helps us let more people know about what we are doing. More people are excited and come out and support local shops like ours.
He says his new coffee shop will open during Spring of 2020 on Broadway Street.
Many stores, like Anika Burke, offered special discounts to encourage people to shop locally.
Karina Junco, from Chico, says this is her third year shopping during Small Business Saturday.
She says, "I love the businesses themselves and the people who run them, they're really sweet and friendly and it's just great."
According to downtown Chico's website, 15 downtown shops participated in Small Business Saturday this year.
