CHICO, Calif. - The Downtown Chico Business Association (DCBA), Thursday announced the cancellation of Slice of Chico.
The event was to take place this Saturday, July 11 from 10 to 5 p.m. In past years, the much-loved community event brought hundreds of shoppers from near and far to roam the streets of Downtown Chico, shopping for sidewalk sale deals and enjoying fresh cut watermelon provided by Pro Pacific Fresh.
“This year would have been the 45th year for Slice of Chico," said Melanie Bassett, Executive Director of the Downtown Chico Business Association. "Its been heart wrenching to cancel Slice, all year we look forward to the games, families and fun that this event brings into downtown each year. We listened to the concerns from the businesses to protect themselves and their employees while enforcing social distancing during the sidewalk sale and made the hard decision to adhere to the Governor’s guidelines that no large gatherings or crowds take place during this phase, therefore canceling the event for 2020.”
The business association is actively working on a Downtown Chico Online Marketplace where shoppers can purchase from downtown businesses while sheltering in place. shop.downtownchico.com is anticipated for July and will promote a virtual summer sale, according to members of the DCBA.
