YREKA, Calif. — With California's newly expanded vaccination categories now in effect, Siskiyou County is holding a mass vaccination event at the County Fairgrounds later this month.

Governor Gavin Newsom announced on Wednesday that the state would open up vaccinations to seniors 65 and older, despite shortages on vaccine distribution.

The Siskiyou County event is scheduled for Friday, January 22 from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. at the fairgrounds. It will be open to California's Phase 1a (Tiers 1-3) and Phase 1b (Tier 1). Individuals must live or work in Siskiyou County. People who have allergies or are prone to allergic reactions cannot receive the vaccine at this event.

The eligible tiers include healthcare workers, first responders, residents and staff of long-term care facilities, seniors 65 and older, food and agriculture workers, school staff and childcare workers, and emergency services. A full breakdown is available on the state website, here.

The vaccine available at this clinic is the Pfizer vaccine and involves the first of two required doses. People who attend to drive-in event will have to return within 21 days for a second dose. There will also be a 15-30 minute observation time after each injection, so attendees need to schedule accordingly.

Before going to the fairgrounds, you'll need to visit the Siskiyou County COVID-19 webpage in order to download and complete the required paperwork.

It was a bright and breezy Friday for northern California, however the wind has been much stronger over Modoc County where a High Wind Warning is in effect through this evening. Stronger wind and cooler air will define our weather Saturday.
