SISKIYOU COUNTY, Calif. - A Yreka man was arrested on Saturday, Nov. 16, after the Siskiyou County Sheriff's Office said the man burglarized a home in the Weed area.
The report came in around 8:30 a.m. on Saturday where officials said they found a home that had been burglarized, ransacked and it was clear property had been taken.
The caller who was reporting the incident said they found the victims' mail nearby and a car in the area, that would later be linked to a possible suspect.
When responding to the area, officials said they found additional buildings had also been burglarized.
Through investigation, officials said they believed the suspect was in the Yreka area. They believed he was a man they were familiar with.
Around 11:30 a.m., deputies found 27-year-old Lamont Darnell Brown in a Yreka motel. During a search, officials said they found stolen items, including jewelry and coins, in the motel room and on Brown.
Officials said he was on probation out of Sacramento County.
It was found that Brown also had drug paraphernalia, according to officials, and while being booked into the county jail, he had attempted to smuggle methadone pills in.
The Sheriff's Office said it is anticipated other charges related to grand theft, possession of stolen property, possession of drug paraphernalia, and possession of a controlled substance and attempting to smuggle the opioid into jail will be filed against him.
The office took this time to remind people to report suspicious activity and always leave valuables locked-up. They also suggested letting law enforcement know if you are leaving town so they can watch your home.
