Single vehicle crash causes backup on Highway 99

Southbound Highway 99 in Chico was back open Saturday night after a single car accident backed up traffic bumper to bumper late Saturday afternoon.

Southbound Highway 99 in Chico was back open Saturday night after a single car accident backed up traffic bumper to bumper late Saturday afternoon.

According to the California Highway Patrol, it happened just before 3:30 p.m., near the Highway 32 exit.

The driver of a Ford pickup was southbound, driving around 70 miles an hour when he didn't notice traffic had slowed down ahead of him.

He slammed on his brakes and hit the center divider.

The driver, from the Yreka area, wasn't injured, and he didn't hit anyone else.
