CHICO, Calif. - Sierra View Elementary School in Chico celebrated their Class of 2020 with a drive-thru graduation.
The fifth grade students pulled up to cheering teachers on June 4.
Parents would drive their children to a white walkway, where the children got out of the car one at a time, walked up to the stage, got their diplomas, a quick picture, and then walked back to their proud parents.
With the coronavirus pandemic the school didn't know if they'd be able to celebrate their students.
That's why they had this drive-thru ceremony, to bring some normalcy to their world.
Teachers, like Julie Crum, say they were grateful to be able to give students a proper send off to middle school.
"It's really amazing to have our PTO our teachers and our staff, everyone being here. Its really incredible. It's been a hard end to the school year for the kids and for them to feel this much love coming toward them. It's really special," says Crum. "It's a hard thing for them and a hard thing for us, but at least it makes a positive here at the end."
About 100 students showed up to celebrate this special day.
