Chico, Calif.—Police responded to a call of a group fight on Sixth and Ivy that happened just after 11 on Friday night, where one person was stabbed. But that wasn’t the last emergency they would respond to in the south campus area.

"Yeah that's pretty scary," said Roman West, a sophomore at Chico State reacting to the news of all the crime that happened over the weekend.

Shortly after the stabbing, someone was robbed in the area of West Second and Cherry streets.

Police say there were three suspects--a white adult male in his 20s wearing a grey jacket and shorts, a white male adult with black curly hair wearing a black shirt and shorts, and a third male which they did not have a description for. They reportedly all had a handgun.

West said he feels like more has to be done to prevent these kind of robberies from happening..

"Sometimes it's a lil sketch at night because there's not really many street lights, it's just a little worrisome," he said.

Then about an hour later, Chico police responded to the area of West Second and Orange Street where a man was shot in the back of his head. He was conscious and told police he was robbed by two men.

Chico State spokesman Sean Murphy said the south campus area has always had a problem with criminal activity.

"85 to 90 percent of Chico State students live within a mile or two radius of campus, so if you get that many students together the chance of something happening increases," Murphy said.

Students receive an email when a crime happens, and tells them what they can do to prevent becoming the next victim.

"You know with a robbery, travel with a friend, keep electronic devices to yourself, try not to walk around at night with your cell phone because the glow from the screen will show up at your face and then you're an easy target," Murphy said.

In an email to students Monday, Chico State told its students that the suspects responsible for Monday morning's alleged assault are described as a white male, approximately 18-years-old with medium length brown hair and wearing a grey hooded sweatshirt. They also believe a hispanic male wearing a black hooded sweatshirt was involved, along with two other males that they don't have a description for.

The Chico Police Department is investigating all of these cases, anyone with information is asked to contact them at 897-4900.
