OROVILLE, Calif. – An Oroville man was arrested after authorities say he intentionally hit a person with a vehicle.

Butte County Sheriff’s deputies said it happened on the morning of Dec. 8 in the 1400 block of Oro Dam Boulevard West. The victim had significant injuries and was transported to the hospital. Authorities say he is currently in stable condition.

Detectives obtained surveillance video of the incident from a local business. After a review, BCSO said they identified the suspect as 29-year-old Pedro Zavala, of Oroville.

Evidence was located by BCSO that showed the victim and Zavala in an engaged altercation. This then led to Zavala using his vehicle to intentionally hit the victim, said BCSO.

On Dec. 11, BCSO located Zavala and the vehicle used to hit the victim. Later that afternoon, Zavala was booked into the Butte County Jail. He faces a felony count of assault with a deadly weapon, and for a felony count of mayhem, according to BCSO.

The Sheriff’s Office is asking anyone with additional information about this investigation to contact Detective Tristan Harper or Detective Vaj Thao at 530-538-7671.
